CST ELA Tutoring
English tutoring will be given Mondays and Thursdays at 2:50 pm to 3:50pm in room 21. This is not for homework help! This tutoring involves helping students improve their CST scores in April. CSTs help determine where students are placed in school. The higher the score the more advantages the student will have to improving their educational experience. and the more likely these students will head towards college.
*CST ELA tutoring will continue until the CST testing. After April, tutoring will be centered on writing skills.

My Policies
The Easiest Way to Pass My Class is to JUST DO THE WORK!!!!
Homework:
a) Homework will be assigned and posted on the whiteboard at the beginning of each week. Students are to write down their assignments in their school planner. It is also posted weekly on this website under assignments.
b) Most assignments will consist of: reading assignments out of the textbook, unfinished class work, reading journals, root and vocabulary work.
c) No Name Policy: I throw away any assignments that do not have student names on it.
Quizzes and Tests:
a) Usually every Friday there will be a quiz on roots, prefixes and suffixes.
b) After every story, there will be a short test with multiple choice and short essay responses. This is normally on every other Wednesday/Friday.
Projects:
a) After most tests, there will be small project start in class and complete at home. Students who need help or materials can arrange to meet me during lunch to have a chance to complete their project.
b) Reading projects are done after reading a fiction or nonfiction novel of the students’ choice.
c) I do not accept late projects.
Late Work:
Work turned in late and not associated with an absence will not earn full credit. Depending on the magnitude of the work being turned in late and the degree of lateness, teacher will reduce the points given. Late work will not be accepted the week before report card grades are due.
In Quarter 4, I WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY LATE OR MAKE-UP WORK!
Missed Work:
a) It is the student’s responsibility to obtain the homework assignments, notes & any other pertinent information that is missed during an absence. Students can check this website to see what was missed.
b) Missed work due to an absence: Additional time (up to five school days) will be given without penalty of taking away points. After five school days, credit will be reduced one letter grade for each additional day (grade earned on work less letter grade deduction for each day over due). Exceptions will be made in unique, deserving situations as determined by the teacher and/or administrator. If missed work is not completed/ask for a week before report cards, then the student will recieve an F for that missing work.
Grading:
a) The District grading scale as applied to points earned by the end of a grading period is as follows:
A = 100-94%, A- = 93-90%, B+ = 89-87%, B = 86-84%, B- = 83-80%, C+ = 79-77%, C = 76-74, C- = 73-70%, D+ = 69-67%, D = 66-64%, D- = 63-60%, F = 59% and below.
b) Each grade recorded into the teacher’s grade book will be recorded on a point basis. A grade may count more than once depending on the length of time and importance of the work assessed. The final grade will be a percent of the total points possible and areas evaluated will be weighted as follows: tests & quizzes = 13%, any type of daily work and participation = 23%, projects = 40%%, homework = 24%. Daily participation will include preparation: having a notebook, materials and homework and arriving on time ready to be productive. Basically, the grades are pretty balanced. A student will not get a good grade if they do poorly in any of the areas of work graded.
Parent Teacher Conferences:
Teachers will contact parents/guardians to share good news concerning their student’s educational growth or to discuss behaviors or work habits that might cause the student difficulty in class. Students are to meet, outside of class time with the teacher to discuss questions or concerns related to class. If this contact does not resolve the issue, students are to contact the principal. Parents are encouraged to communicate with teachers through e-mail. Teacher’s e-mail address for this class: [email protected] or [email protected].
