WECLOME 7TH GRADE PARENTS AND STUDENTS!
I’m Ms. Vaughn, an English Teacher at Portola Middle School. I hope this will be an excellent year for all of us. We can have fun with learning. However, we will need to work hard first before we can play hard. Below are my norms, my expectations and goals for this class.
Major Instructional Goals:
To have at least 85% of my students to score proficient or higher on their CST English Language Exams.
My students master all the seventh grade standards.
Every student reading more.
General Rules: Be on time, be safe, be respectful and be responsible. Follow Reasonable Request.
Preparation for Class: Students are required to bring a pencil, paper, their planner, completed homework and a notebook for vocabulary and “Do Now” assignments.
Expectations for class:
Everyone has the right to, and should expect to, learn.
Each individual is worthy of respect.
Classroom orderliness is necessary for an effective classroom.
Hard work is necessary for learning.
Questions are always encouraged.

CST ELA Tutoring
English tutoring will be given Mondays and Thursdays at 2:50 pm to 3:50pm in room 21. This is not for homework help! This tutoring involves helping students improve their CST scores in April. CSTs help determine where students are placed in school. The higher the score the more advantages the student will have to improving their educational experience. and the more likely these students will head towards college.
*CST ELA tutoring will continue until the CST testing. After April, tutoring will be centered on writing skills.
